Thomas was one of the very first children to joined Yasha
Playgroup. His mother is old and is not involved with him.
The school has taken full responsibility for Thomas.
Teacher Anne changing Christine’s nappy.
One of the parents bringing his baby Mnashe to school. Look

The Tom & Jerry class with teacher Jydy and the principal
for the Junior Academy teacher Esther.
The Academy students proudly display the Netball, Volleyball
as well as different Soccer Balls that was purchased with a
fundraising they had on “Valentines Day”. Well done students!
Parent involvement is a very important part of our
education system. We have regular meetings with the
parents/ guardians. We have a compulsory "Parent Conference" at
the end of every term
where we discuss the progress of each student with the parent.
The Grade 0 class has regular fieldtrips as part of their curriculum. Here they
visited a health shop. What a joy to see the increase of knowledge in these children.
Maxwell (a student in Grade 1) sitting in his “office”.
Every child has his/her own office. In this way it is
easier to give individual attention to the children.
Students in the library. We encourage them to value books
and to make use of it to improve their reading skills.
The Yasha Sportsday for the Academy is a
great day of excitement and fun. We all enjoy
the team spirit and the talents of our athletes.
The “Hot Lunch Program” that we have started
make it possible for us to feed all the students
from the academy (Gr 1 - Gr 8), as well as
staff involved with these students and their
children, a total of 100 people. Thanks
Phanice for the nice food!
Proud to be Kenyans. The flag ceremony
is part of our Tuesday Morning Assembly.

YASHA Mission Academy
[ Future Development ]
YASHA:
A Hebrew root word indicating that help or deliverance is freely and
openly available to provide a haven of safety for every child.
Background
Where did it all start?
- In the beginning of 2004 we became more and more aware of the number of small children walking aimlessly in the streets during the morning hours
- We came in contact with a Kenyan woman called Josephyne Odour, that shared a similar vision- Yasha Playgroup was basically born overnight.
- We started with three(3) small children in our garage and two(2) babies in our guestroom on our property
- Our neighbour Anne Cheptoo had a passion to work with young babies and was ready to help us with the babies
- Very soon we had sixteen (16) children between two(2) and five(5) years and nine (9) babies from about 4-18 months.
- Unfortunately our space was limited and did not allow us to take more children.
- We identified the need to start with a proper school, and in November 2004 we got a double storey house with outside buildings on a 4 acre plot to rent.
- The house was very neglected but after a lot of work we were ready to start the school on January 2004.
They presented a play for the Year End Celebration in
Nov 2004 under
the capable hands of teachers Eunice
and Josephyne.
YASHA
JUNIOR ACADEMY (40 children)
1. YASHA BABY DAY CARE CENTER
Baby day care is a very new concept in our area.
Our main objective is to provide a place where babies and the little kids can
grow and develop in a loving, safe, happy and colourful environment
We currently cater for half days only (8am to 1pm) where the center provide food
and beverage.
This facility makes it possible for the mothers who’s babies are cared for,
to work in their lands (shambas) during the morning hours or to go to the market
to buy some fruit and vegetables to sell at their small kiosks.
Our aim is to eventually provide a full day care facility
This department has two groups:
- Mickey Mouse Class (4-18 months)
- Teddy Bear Class (18-24 months)
2. YASHA NURSERY DEPARTMENT
We also call it the playgroups and this department also has two groups:
- Tom & Jerry Class (3-4 years)
- Barney Class (4-5 years)
Our main focus is to provide the children with colourful equipment that will
stimulate their minds, senses as well as their bodies, but without the burden of
formal education.
We develop the child’s confidence and skills through playing techniques.
Their character and young minds are shaped to embrace the love for education.
They also learn to be creative and to be good stewards at a young age.
The sportsday is surely one of the biggest highlights for our youth
stars. What a beautiful sight! The Red and Blue teams
were very
competitive.
3. YASHA MISSION ACADEMY (70 students)
The Academy has classes from Gr 0 up to Grade 8.
We use the A.C.E. program that is also known as the School of Tomorrow.
It originates from America.
The School of Tomorrow gives every child the opportunity to develop individually
at his/her own pace according to their own ability.
The School of Tomorrow therefore prepare the children for life and not merely to
pass exam. We believe in individual attention and for every ten (10) children we have
one (1) teacher.
We want to produce students of character and integrity, so that they can govern
themselves as they grow and develop.
Our target group in Yasha Mission Academy is children from single mothers, widows,
broken homes as well as orphans that are staying with relatives.
Currently we have a child with “Down Syndrome”, two (2) children with “HIV Aids” as
well as a child who is “Physical Disabled” in his lower body.

experience,
I mean for everybody!
Students of the “Ellie Elephant” class received their
“Certificates”
after a year of hard work. Congratulations

achieving your goals.
We are proud of you!
Every year our students participate in the “Student
Convention” in different categories. Maki was our
first
student that participated in the “All Africa
Student
Convention” in South Africa. Maki did
Praise & Worship
dancing. Thanks for being
our ambassador Maki!
Part of the Celebration at the end of the year and very
important as well is our Graduation Ceremony. Here we
enjoy some dancing - Africa tradition!
The Last but not the Least! We can only accomplish our
mission
with dedicated staff. Thanks for giving yourself
to the children
and to us. We Salute You!!
